サウスランドハイスクールは 1881 年設立の名門校であり、そのすぐ後に1st XV（ファーストフィフティーン）が設立されました。過去 1 世紀にわたって、サウスランド ボーイズはラグビーに関し誇り高い学校であり、南島中に多くのライバル校が存在します。この学校は、高いレベルでプレーする素晴らしいラグビー選手を何人も輩出しており、21 人がオールブラックスでプレーし、そのうち 6 人がチームのキャプテンを務めています。ニュージーランド史上、単一の学校がオールブラックスのキャプテンを輩出した中では最多です。2023年シーズン、1st XVは学校史上初めて全国大会で優勝し、歴史を作りました。南島の学校が優勝するのは17年ぶりのことでした。成功の主な理由は、コーチが私たちに教え込んでくれるメンタリティだと私は信じています。私たちはフィールドでも懸命に頑張るよう努めていますが、フィールド外ではもっと重要です。コーチたちは、まず私たちが良い人間であることに重点を置いており、それは私たちが良いラグビー選手になることへと繋がりるのです。ロイヤルブルー（1st XV）でプレーすることは、私たちの学校にとって大きな名誉であり誇りです。私たちチームは、サニックスワールドラグビーユース交流大会2024に参加するという挑戦を楽しみにしており、日本および世界中の、世界をリードするラグビースクールとの対戦で自分たちを試せる機会を待っています。
Southland Boys High School has been a prestigious school since 1881 with the school’s 1st XV established not long after this. Over the last century Southland Boys has been a proud school when it comes to rugby and has many big rival schools across the South Island. The school has produced several great rugby players that’s have gone on to play at a high level, with 21 students going on to play for the All Black’s with 6 of them captaining the side. This is the most All Blacks captains a single school in NZ history has produced. In the 2023 season the 1st XV created history winning the national schoolboy 1stXV competition for the first time in the school’s history. This was also the first time a South Island school had won in 17 years. A key reason to being successful I believe is the mentality that the coaches instill in us. We strive to work hard on the field but even more importantly off it. The coaches focus on ensuring we are good people first and this allows us to also be good rugby players. To play for Royal blue (1st XV) is a massive honor at our school and comes with lots of pride. Our team is looking forward to the challenge of participating in the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament 2024 and can wait to test ourselves against the world leading rugby schools from Japan and around the world.
